Silver Championships Apr 13-14

The 2018-19 Silver Pacific Coast Championships (PCCs) is April 13-14 and we are registered! The event will host both Gold & Silver fleets and is hosted by Mission Bay Yacht Club (MBYC). There are 19 boats in Gold and 25 registered in Silver. Details about the event are available from the Notice of Race (NOR).

:eight_spoked_asterisk: UPDATE: Note the custom map to MBYC. In addition to regatta info, it contains directions to route you through a ½ marathon on Saturday morning in the Mission Bay area (runners 7a ~ 8:30a). Sea World Drive will be closed.

  • PCISA race committee suggests coming to MBYC from the north (Balboa/Garnet [I5 Exit 23]). Note that runners do cross Mission Blvd just north of MBYC, but usually all the runners have passed by 8-8:30am. Please plan accordingly and for more information regarding the marathon, please visit sandiegobeachandbayhalfmarathon.com.
  • ALTERNATE: Based on info about the marathon route I’ve added a possible Alternate (less congested) route on the map from south of MBYC (Rosecrans [I5 Exit 20] -> Hancock St ->W Mission Bay Dr). While navigating there we suggest using a maps app with realtime traffic conditions and plan on needing extra time.
  • Bagels, Pastries, and fruits will be provided Saturday and Sunday morning in the Junior Building.
  • Team meeting location on our map
  • Parking info on our map
  • Tent Location on our map
  • Lunch: The galley window will be open for lunch with a limited menu.

Fees

Entry fee includes PCISA sails, a t-shirt for each paid sailor and coach, BBQ on the beach after racing on Saturday, plus snacks after racing on Sunday. Additional t-shirts may be available for purchase.

PCC Regata Schedule

Parents: Sailors need to be onsite by 8:45a. Boat setup and inspection is from 9-10a. Warning for first race is at 11a. Final race must start by 3:30p on Sunday, although Sat could go much later. All details are in NOR. (see links in sidebar)

Practice Over Spring Break

Friday practice (4/5/18) is canceled due to a special event at ABYC. Please plan to practice Wed instead, and should be considered mandatory for sailors participating in PCCs. In addition, a few sailors are organizing extra practices over spring break in order to sharpen skills and prepare for PCCs. Reach out to other sailors on the team to get involved in the action.

Weather

WIND: GFS Model suggests

TIDE/CURRENTS: Towards high tide, water currents fill the bay. Towards low tide, water currents leave the bay.

  • Saturday low tide at 12:01 will cause a shift in currents after first races, then gradually grow stronger throughout the day. By 3p currents will likely be a factor in strategy.
  • Sunday low tide is almost an hour later, just before 1p.
